London is betting on Kazakhstan’s resources, trying to reduce its dependence on China, Orda.kz reports.
In England, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Ermek Kosherbayev and the foreign ministers of four other Central Asian countries met with the head of British diplomacy Yvette Cooper. The parties discussed agreements on the supply and processing of important fossil resources and cooperation in the field of higher education.
Cooper noted the need to strengthen ties with the Central Asian region.
Central Asia is an important region with great potential for accelerating economic growth. These agreements provide opportunities for British business, strengthen economic security and demonstrate Great Britain’s support for the independence of the Central Asian states, she said.
The new action plan is expected to diversify British supply chains by supporting investments in critical mineral projects in Kazakhstan.
Kazakhstan’s natural resources are of interest in many countries. For example, the American Cove Capital and Tau-Ken Samruk agreed on the joint development of tungsten deposits Northern Katpar and Upper Kairakty. American Cove Capital will have 70% and control sales, the project is estimated at $1.1 billion.
