Su-30SM Fighter Jet Crashes Near Karaganda
On February 25, a Su-30SM fighter jet suffered an accident in the Karaganda region during a scheduled training flight, Orda.kz reports.
The aircraft was on a training mission when an emergency occurred. The crew abandoned the plane: both pilots ejected and survived. Doctors examined them, and their lives are not in danger.
An alert about the incident was received by the Operational Control Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs from Kazaeronavigation. The aircraft crashed about 10 kilometers from the Sary-Arka airfield in the Bukhar-Zhyrau district.
The crash site was cordoned off. Preliminary reports say no one on the ground was injured and no infrastructure was damaged.
The Ministry of Defense has set up a commission to determine the cause of the accident. It includes aviation specialists and representatives of the flight safety department. The ministry said it will announce its findings after the inspection is completed.
The Su-30SM is a two-seat, multi-role 4+ generation fighter designed to engage air and ground targets. It is in service with Kazakhstan’s combat aviation.
On February 20, a Russian Su-30 fighter made an unscheduled landing at Atyrau International Airport. Preliminary information said it had been on a training flight over the Caspian Sea when the pilot became disoriented, prompting a decision to land in Kazakhstan.
