Twenty Evacuated After Fire at Aktogay Concentrator

A fire broke out in the high-pressure grinding roll area during scheduled repairs at Concentrator No. 1 of the Aktogay mine in the Abay region, Orda.kz reports.
The fire started at around noon on August 9. According to KAZ Minerals, it began near a screen where employees of a contracting company were carrying out scheduled maintenance.
Twenty people were evacuated from the production site. No injuries were reported.
The facility’s emergency response team extinguished the open flames. The company said there was no remaining smoke or smoldering and no threat to nearby buildings, conveyors or other production areas. No one required medical attention due to smoke exposure.
There were no environmental consequences,KAZ Minerals said.
A special commission is investigating the cause of the fire. The company is also assessing the damage and whether the incident could affect the repair schedule or production.
Concentrator No. 2 and the oxide ore processing facility continue to operate normally.
