Turkestan Region Deputy Suspected of Raping Chinese Investor

A man has been detained in the Turkestan Region on suspicion of sexually assaulting an investor from China, Orda.kz reports.
The Halyqstan Telegram channel identified the detainee as Yergali Amanbayev, a member of a district maslikhat, or local council, in the Turkestan Region. According to the channel, an Almaty resident brought four Chinese investors to the village of Baizhansai to explore opportunities in lead and zinc mining.
The complainant alleges that the 43-year-old council member met the visitors, drove a 34-year-old Chinese woman to an isolated area in a Lexus, and raped her. Police in the Baidibek District opened an investigation following the complaint.
The Turkestan Region Police Department confirmed to Orda.kz that a suspect had been detained, but did not confirm his identity or political position.
A pretrial investigation is underway. A Shymkent resident has been identified and taken into custody,the regional police press service said.
