Former U.S. President Donald Trump has issued formal letters to the leaders of Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Laos, South Africa, and Myanmar, notifying them of new trade tariffs, Orda.kz reports.
One of the letters, published via Trump’s Truth Social account, included a direct warning to Kazakhstan:

In the letter, Trump argued that trade between Kazakhstan and the United States “has not been reciprocal.”
He claimed the 25% tariff is still “significantly lower than what is necessary” to address what he sees as imbalances in bilateral trade.
Trump also stated that Kazakh companies could avoid these duties entirely if they choose to manufacture their products within the United States. However, he warned that Washington is prepared to impose additional tariffs if any retaliatory measures are taken.
Back in April, Trump announced a broad tariff package targeting multiple trading partners.
Kazakhstan was included on the expanded list, with a specific tariff of 27% introduced. A base import duty of 10% on goods from all countries also took effect on April 5, followed by a 90-day moratorium on further increases.
Most recently, on July 7, Trump threatened an additional 10% tariff on any country that supports what he called the “anti-American” policy of BRICS.
