U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters that he has not yet made a final decision about holding a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Orda.kz reports, citing The Kyiv Independent.
“I don’t want to have a wasted meeting ... We haven’t made a determination yet,” Trump said.
He added that “a lot of things are happening” and that there would be an update on the next steps “in the next two days.”
The statement came amid reports that plans for the potential summit in Budapest had been put on hold.
Reportedly, talks between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio have also been shelved.
Earlier, media outlets including Reuters and NBC News cited White House officials as saying that no confirmed date had been set for Trump’s talks with Putin, while Russian officials maintained that preparations were still underway.
At the same time, a State Department spokesperson told the Kyiv Independent that there are no current plans for U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin to meet in the immediate future.
Reports have also surfaced that Russia had sent the United States an unofficial document over the past weekend outlining the conditions for a peace agreement with Ukraine.
The document reportedly states that Russia expects to take full control of the entire Donbas region, and that the deployment of NATO troops on Ukrainian territory is unacceptable.
