There are currently no plans for U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin to meet in the near future, Orda.kz reports.
Reuters wrote about this on Oct. 21, citing an unnamed White House official.
According to the agency’s source, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also have no plans for an in-person meeting, although they held what was described as a “productive” phone call on Oct. 20, according to The Kyiv Independent.
The report comes after Trump announced on Oct. 16 that he intended to meet Putin in Budapest in the coming weeks to discuss efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
NBC News correspondent Garrett Haake wrote on X that planning for the Budapest summit is “on hold” for now:
Planning towards that Trump/Putin summit in Budapest is "on hold" at the moment, a senior White House official tells me. Initial call between Sec. Rubio & FM Lavrov was "productive," but POTUS believes both sides aren't ready enough to talk to justify moving forward right now.

Similar information has been reported by the BBC and CBS News.
The development follows statements from Russian officials only hours earlier, saying that preparations for the Budapest summit were still underway, though no date had been finalized.
The meeting, expected to be hosted by Hungary’s Moscow-friendly prime minister Viktor Orbán, would have been the second encounter between Trump and Putin since Trump’s return to office in January.
The two leaders last met in Alaska on Aug. 15 to discuss possible steps toward ending the war in Ukraine, but achieved little progress.
