Trade Minister Says Kazakhstan Should Become a “Landlocked Singapore”

Kazakhstan plans to expand exports and capture new niches in global markets as trade conflicts reshape supply chains, Trade and Integration Minister Arman Shakkaliyev said, Orda.kz reports.

According to Shakkaliyev, the changes are creating new opportunities for Kazakh producers.

Trade conflicts are long-term, and many countries are looking for new markets and suppliers. This creates opportunities for Kazakhstan. Agricultural products are already driving export growth. We are looking at where Kazakh producers can fill newly opened niches. The next step is to expand the range of goods and increase exports of higher-value products. Investors are arriving and new enterprises are opening. Kazakhstan should become a landlocked Singapore, Shakkaliyev said.

He added that about 80% of Kazakhstan’s exports go to China, the Eurasian Economic Union and the European Union.
