A large-scale wind power plant will be built in southern Kazakhstan, with funding provided by investors from the United Arab Emirates, reports Orda.kz.
President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev has signed a law ratifying the agreement with the UAE, paving the way for a project to supply electricity to hundreds of thousands of homes and reshape the country’s energy sector.
The agreement sets the legal foundation for large-scale construction in the Jambyl region, where two major wind farms with a combined capacity of one gigawatt are planned.
Construction is planned to begin in the first quarter of 2026. Once completed, the station will supply electricity to about 300,000 homes in southern Kazakhstan and prevent two million tons of coal emissions per year,
writes Asian Power.
Masdar, a leading Emirati renewable energy company, is financing the project. As previously reported, total investment could exceed $1.5 billion.
The day before the agreement was signed, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi arrived in Kazakhstan to sign several documents and discuss strategic cooperation.
