President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev held his first official meeting with newly appointed Minister of Transport Nurlan Sauranbayev, Orda.kz reports.
Sauranbayev, formerly the head of Kazakhstan Temir Joly, took over the Ministry on June 30 following the dismissal of Marat Karabayev, who was removed after receiving a reprimand for shortcomings in the transport sector.
At the meeting, Toqayev instructed the minister to fast-track the development of national highways and air transport hubs and to boost the volume of freight transit through Kazakhstan.
He placed particular emphasis on the implementation of large-scale railway infrastructure projects.
The President also tasked Sauranbayev with identifying barriers holding back the industry and proposing new strategies to enhance the transport and logistics sector’s contribution to the national economy.
Toqayev underlined the strategic importance of strengthening Kazakhstan’s role as a key transit corridor and trade hub within Eurasia.
