Kazakhstan’s President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev met with Estonian President Alar Karis in Astana, where both sides outlined priorities for strengthening bilateral ties, Orda.kz reports.
Alar Karis arrived in the Kazakh capital on November 17 for a two-day official visit. During their talks, Tokayev highlighted Estonia’s strategic importance for Kazakhstan, especially regarding access to European markets.
We are very interested in gaining access to your seaports and in trading with your country, as well as in maintaining constructive contacts in international organizations, primarily the United Nations, the UN Security Council, and others,
Toqayev said.
Both leaders acknowledged that certain obstacles currently hinder cooperation. They did not specify the challenges, but according to Karis, none are insurmountable.
I’m very optimistic about the future and hope that new contacts will contribute to this. Of course, the current geopolitical situation is far from stable, but we must work together to address and overcome emerging challenges,
the Estonian president noted.
Karis is the second EU head of state to visit Kazakhstan within a month, following Finnish President Alexander Stubb’s visit to Astana in late October.
