On August 5, President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev will take part in the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3), which will be held in the national tourism zone of Avaza, Turkmenistan, Orda.kz reports.
Tomorrow, August 3, an agreement will be signed in Almaty to establish the UN Regional Center for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for Central Asia and Afghanistan. The signing ceremony will be attended by President Toqayev and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
The agreement will be signed by Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu and UN Deputy Secretary-General Li Junhua. The decision to establish the center was adopted by the UN General Assembly in March this year.
Following the Almaty visit, Toqayev and Guterres will travel to Turkmenistan to participate in the LLDC3 conference in Avaza, where delegations from 32 countries are expected. Toqayev also has bilateral meetings planned with leaders of Turkmenistan and other participating countries.
There are 44 landlocked countries worldwide, including all the Central Asian states. The UN emphasizes that the conference is meant to serve as a platform for finding solutions and partnerships to help these countries reach their full potential.
António Guterres last visited Kazakhstan in July 2024 to attend the SCO summit in Astana.
