Toqayev and Berdimuhamedow Hold Discussions

President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev held an informal meeting with Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, Chair of the People's Council of Turkmenistan, Orda.kz reports.
Toqayev thanked Berdimuhamedow for visiting Turkistan — a city regarded as Kazakhstan’s spiritual heart and a place of profound significance for all Turkic peoples. He also congratulated the Turkmen leader on the launch of the International Year of Peace and Trust, a UN initiative spearheaded by Turkmenistan.
It is gratifying that cooperation between our countries is thriving. The plans include strategically important projects in the gas industry, as well as in the transport and logistics sector. We’re closely monitoring progress, as the future of economic cooperation between our countries depends on its results,Toqayev noted.
According to the presidential press service, the two sides placed a particular focus on expanding cooperation in the energy sector, specifically on Kazakhstan’s potential involvement in the development of Turkmenistan’s supergiant Galkynysh gas field, alongside international partners.
Toqayev also highlighted the importance of a proposed railway project stretching from Torghundi at the Turkmen-Afghan border through Herat, Kandahar, and Spin Boldak in Afghanistan. He emphasized that the successful completion of this route would help diversify regional transport corridors and open new export markets.
Additionally, Kazakhstan's President highlighted the strategic importance of other infrastructure projects, including the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway and the Turkmenbashi-Garabogaz-Kazakhstan border highway, in enhancing transit capacity along the North-South trade corridor.
The two leaders also discussed cooperation in education, healthcare, and digitalization. Kazakhstan expressed readiness to support Turkmenistan in modernizing its public service platforms and in training specialists across IT, defense, and medicine.
