President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has called for a reconsideration of the approach to the UN Charter and how it is applied, Orda.kz reports.
According to him, international rules should not be interpreted depending on the situation.
There is a great deal of talk about the inviolability of the UN Charter, which remains the cornerstone of international law. However, the UN Charter is not haute cuisine, and it cannot be treated like a menu from which one selects only what one likes. On the contrary, the UN Charter should be accepted and understood as a single, comprehensive document, with all its provisions recognized as such.Tokayev said at the regional environmental summit.
He also added that international institutions, including the UN, must correspond to modern realities, and that it is important to prevent the selective application of the Charter’s principles, including in matters related to military conflicts.
We must avoid the selective application of the principles of the UN Charter to international armed conflicts. At the same time, we must maintain unwavering faith in multilateral institutions, although, unfortunately, they lack the authority to resolve important international problems. the president added
