Tokayev Calls For Modernization Of Kazakhstan’s Space Industry

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting of Kazakhstan’s Security Council devoted to the development of the space industry, Orda.kz reports.
During the meeting, government members presented reports on the current state of the space sector, ongoing projects, and prospects for its further development.
Tokayev emphasized the strategic importance of the space industry for the country. Particular attention was paid to the stable operation of satellite communications, the development of space infrastructure, and the introduction of modern technologies.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Zhaslan Madiyev reported on the implementation of key industry projects. The discussion focused on the development of satellite systems, modernization of space infrastructure, and the use of space data in the economy and public administration.
According to the president, the global space sector is undergoing a major transformation. While space activities were once accessible only to a limited number of states, private companies are now playing an increasingly important role. They are actively developing areas such as communications, navigation, satellite monitoring, scientific research, and internet access.
Tokayev noted the importance of further support for scientific research, including in astrophysics.
The Baiterek project received a positive assessment. According to the head of state, it contributes to strengthening Kazakhstan’s technological and engineering potential.
The meeting also addressed prospects for international cooperation in the space sector. Tokayev pointed to the need to further develop strategic cooperation with Russia and other foreign partners.
In addition, he drew attention to the need to improve social and living conditions for residents of Baikonur and nearby settlements.
Following the meeting, the government was given a number of specific instructions aimed at modernizing the space industry and improving the efficiency of using its potential in the interests of the state,the statement said.
