A girl waiting for a bus was forcibly dragged into a car and taken away. The incident occurred in front of dozens of witnesses — some tried to intervene but were unable to stop them, Orda.kz reports.
According to witnesses, the victim screamed and resisted, but the men acted quickly. The car then sped away from the scene.
Ministry of Internal Affairs spokesperson Shyngys Alekeshev said that three suspects have been detained and placed in a temporary detention facility. The case is under the personal supervision of the ministry’s leadership. A criminal investigation has been opened under Article 125-1, “Coercion into Marriage,” of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The ministry noted that Article 125-1 was only recently introduced and that explanatory work is ongoing to ensure proper enforcement.
Police will strictly suppress any attempts to coerce marriage or commit other crimes against the personal freedom of citizens. The principle of the inevitability of punishment will be fully upheld,
the ministry said in a statement.
