Three residents of Astana have been found guilty of illegal entrepreneurship after operating an unauthorized cryptocurrency mining farm for two years, Orda.kz reports.
According to the Financial Monitoring Agency (FMA), the individuals set up the operation in 2022 under the guise of an engine processing center. Over that period, they mined digital assets valued at over 143 million tenge.
Their electricity usage was comparable to that of a residential district in the city.
During a search, authorities seized 1,257 pieces of mining equipment, industrial fans, a transformer substation, and two vehicles — a Toyota Camry and a Nissan Juke.
The total value of the confiscated property was over 900 million tenge.
By court verdict they were found guilty under Article 214, Part 2 of the Criminal Code (illegal entrepreneurship), and were sentenced to a fine. In addition, the court ordered the amount of criminal proceeds to be collected in the amount of 143.2 million tenge,
commented in FMA.
The verdict has entered into legal force.
