Thousands Of Kazakh Graduates Risk Entering An Oversaturated Labor Market

Kazakhstan’s labor market is oversaturated with specialists in professions that are no longer in demand, Orda.kz reports, citing KTK.
Employers are increasingly looking at work experience rather than diplomas.
Hiring experts say choosing a promising profession is becoming more difficult. The labor market is changing quickly, and while students are still studying, some specialties are already losing relevance.
At the same time, many applicants still choose economics, law, business management, and IT. After graduation, not all of them are able to find work.
In addition, students often work as couriers, waiters, or promoters during their studies, but do not gain practical experience in their chosen profession.
The Ministry of Science and Higher Education says applicants’ preferences have changed in recent years. About 60% of students now choose engineering, IT, and teaching programs.
However, traditional economics and law specialties are still popular, which is why the market has an oversupply of such workers.
Meanwhile, employers are increasingly reporting a shortage of technical specialists and blue-collar workers.
This year, a record 193,000 people will receive higher education diplomas in Kazakhstan.
