Kazakhstan is looking for alternative contractors to take over the construction of three thermal power plants, Vice Minister of Energy Bakhytzhan Ilyasov said during a public meeting in Astana, Orda.kz reports.
Negotiations are underway with new potential partners to replace Russian companies previously involved in the projects.
Samruq-Energo is holding talks, and we’re also in discussions with other energy companies that can meet environmental standards and modern energy efficiency requirements. These could include firms from China, Korea — several options are being considered,
Ilyasov noted.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar said Kazakhstan might need to replace the investor for the projects in Kokshetau, Semey, and Oskemen, citing financial difficulties on the Russian side.
