No one was harmed, but the house burned down completely. In a video posted on Instagram, a woman says that the house was presumably set on fire from the outside, Orda.kz reports.
At night, a couple of hours ago, the relatives of the victims called me and told me the terrible news that the house of our victims in the criminal case of the killing of schoolboy Sherzat from Talgar had been set on fire, Saida Taukeleva wrote on her Instagram.
The Almaty Region Police Department commented on the incident:
The police have opened a criminal case on the fact of the deliberate destruction of someone else's property. As part of the investigation, witnesses are being questioned and recordings from surveillance cameras are being examined. At present, all the circumstances of the incident and the reasons that could have led to the incident are being established,
the statement says.
The Almaty Region Police Department has also stated that the family has been provided with a 24-hour security detail.
Meanwhile, the Prosecutor General's Office created an interdepartmental investigative task force to investigate the incident and will oversee it.
All measures will be taken to expose the responsible persons. The criminal case has been taken under the supervision of the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Kazakhstan,
the department stated.
Karzhaubay Nurymov, Sherzat's father, had previously said he was receiving threats. The Almaty Region Akimat has promised to assist in restoring the family's house. The family will be provided with temporary housing until the repairs are finished.
