A man arrested on suspicion of killing 17-year-old Aisuluu Mukasheva has confessed to several crimes, including other homicides, Orda.kz reports.
According to 24.kg, the Kyrgyz Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed that during interrogation, the suspect first admitted to killing Aisuluu Mukasheva and later confessed to additional long-unsolved crimes.
He told investigators that he strangled another woman, Kamila Duishebaeva, in 2014. Her body was found in a cemetery in the village of Baytik, and an autopsy showed she had been strangled with a scarf. The case had remained unsolved for years.
The suspect may also be linked to other homicides. He pointed investigators to several locations where bodies had previously been discovered. Authorities are now verifying his statements.
Aisuluu Mukasheva, aged 17, was killed with particular cruelty in late September in the Issyk-Kul region.
A 1984-born man with a prior conviction was detained. Investigators allege that he took the girl to an apple orchard near Azamat Beach in the village of Zhenish, where he sexually assaulted and strangled her.
Following Aisuluu’s funeral, hundreds of residents of the Issyk-Kul region held a rally demanding harsher penalties for violent crimes against women and minors. In response, the President of Kyrgyzstan ordered the groundwork to reinstate the death penalty, which had been abolished in 2007 and replaced by life imprisonment.
