Supreme Court Chair Reports Rising Acquittals and Mediation Cases to Toqayev
Chair of the Supreme Court Aslambek Mergaliyev briefed President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev on the performance of the courts over the past seven months, Orda.kz reports, citing Aqorda.
According to Mergaliyev, investigative courts are increasingly refusing arrest petitions: the share of refusals rose from 23% to 37%.
In addition, since the beginning of the year, the number of cases resolved through mediation has grown by 24% — from 61,000 to 76,000. In disputes with state bodies, courts ruled 2,600 decisions and actions of officials unlawful, or 57% of those reviewed,
Aqorda quotes the Supreme Court head.
The number of acquittals also increased, from 59 to 88.
Mergaliyev reminded the president that new cassation courts began operating on July 1. In their first month, they received nearly 5,000 complaints and appeals.
Toqayev stressed that public trust in the judiciary and the quality of justice must continue to improve.
