Shymkent Man Jailed for Sexually Assaulting Hearing-Impaired Woman; Other Suspects Still Under Investigation

A 28-year-old Shymkent resident has been sentenced to eight years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman with a hearing impairment, Orda.kz reports. The defendant admitted guilt, and the court considered his remorse a mitigating factor; no aggravating circumstances were established.
The court also ordered him to pay the victim three million tenge in moral damages. The verdict was handed down under Paragraph 2, Part 2 of Article 120 of Kazakhstan’s Criminal Code. The case was heard behind closed doors.
According to NeMolchi, at least three men were involved in the crime. One suspect allegedly threatened the woman and exploited her vulnerability; the investigation against him is ongoing in the Kazgurt district of Turkistan Region. In another episode, a complaint is being prepared over the concealment of the crime.
Lawyer Gulaykhan Tursumanova confirmed that the cases have been split into separate proceedings. The victim’s side agrees with the verdict and does not plan to appeal. The judgment has not yet entered into force.
Earlier, a 22-year-old woman with partial hearing loss reported being sexually assaulted by a group in Shymkent. She claimed the men blackmailed her, filmed the assault, and took her to remote areas.
#NeMolchiKZ said the identities of three suspects had been established, but none were arrested for a long time.
