A 28-year-old Shymkent resident has been sentenced to eight years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman with a hearing impairment, Orda.kz reports. The defendant admitted guilt, and the court considered his remorse a mitigating factor; no aggravating circumstances were established.
The court also ordered him to pay the victim three million tenge in moral damages. The verdict was handed down under Paragraph 2, Part 2 of Article 120 of Kazakhstan’s Criminal Code. The case was heard behind closed doors.
According to NeMolchi, at least three men were involved in the crime. One suspect allegedly threatened the woman and exploited her vulnerability; the investigation against him is ongoing in the Kazgurt district of Turkistan Region. In another episode, a complaint is being prepared over the concealment of the crime.
Lawyer Gulaykhan Tursumanova confirmed that the cases have been split into separate proceedings. The victim’s side agrees with the verdict and does not plan to appeal. The judgment has not yet entered into force.
