Sherzat Polat Homicide Case Suspects Celebrate Birthday: 16 Punished over Controversy

According to available information, suspects in the Sherzat Polat homicide case brought a cake with candles and smartphones with Internet access to the Almaty region detention center, Orda.kz reports.
A video that surfaced shows four people celebrating a birthday in a detention center.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that an inspection was conducted at the detention center in the Yenbekshikazakh district of the Almaty region.
It was established that an employee of the temporary detention facility took the video and used his phone. He was dismissed and deprived of his special rank for gross violation of discipline. A criminal case was opened on this fact.
For gross violation of service discipline and inadequate control, 16 managers and employees were brought to strict disciplinary liability, including dismissal from their positions in a disciplinary manner, including the head of the temporary detention facility, the message says.
Oversight over the detention regime in the temporary detention facility has been strengthened.
Additional video monitoring measures have been introduced, and unscheduled inspections of similar institutions throughout the country have begun.
