Suspects in Sherzat Polat Homicide Case Celebrate Birthday: Details Emerge
Suspects in the Sherzat Polat homicide case were caught on video celebrating in their cell at an Almaty region temporary detention facility with cake, candles, and smartphones with internet access, Orda.kz reports.
The video shows the detainees requesting music through the voice assistant "Alice," dancing, and calling out:
Aseke, where are the girls? Open the door, open the door.
Sources say a guard, likely friends with a suspect's family, helped arrange the celebration.
The Almaty Region Police Department stated:
A comprehensive investigation is underway into the disseminating of a video recording from the temporary detention facility, which shows the birthday celebration of one of the arrested. All guilty parties, including leadership, will be held strictly accountable. The investigation has been placed under special supervision.
According to the source, the guard faces dismissal and possible criminal charges.
The case also raises questions about why suspects in the same criminal case were held together, violating Article 32 of Kazakhstan's Criminal Executive Code requiring their separation.
