The family of Sherzat Polat, who was killed in Talgar in October 2024, has decided to end cooperation only with human rights activist Aitbek Amangeldy, Orda reports.
The family did not wave legal support - its interests will now be represented by lawyers Meirman Shekeyev and Zhandos Palmanov.
Reshuffle, Not A Change
Contrary to earlier reports suggesting that Sherzat’s father, Karzhaubay Nurymov, had dismissed all his lawyers, activist Zhan Akhmadiev clarified that this was a misunderstanding.
Karzhaubay's family did not forgo lawyers. They only broke off relations with Aitbek Amangeldy,

Lawyers Meirman Shekeyev and Zhandos Palmanov will now represent the family's legal interests.
According to Meirman Shekeyev, his team is open to cooperating with the previous legal representatives if they choose to remain on the case. However, he noted that he had been unable to obtain the case materials for two days.
Background
Sherzat Polat was killed in Talgar last October following an altercation that, according to some sources, started over a can of beer. After his death, his father and relatives staged protests, demanding a thorough and fair investigation.
In December 2024, police discovered the body of Sherzat’s 30-year-old uncle, Nurganat Gaepbayev, on the outskirts of Talgar. Investigators concluded that he died by suicide.
