An oil-like slick was detected on Sorbulaq Lake in Almaty Region using satellite monitoring tools, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations reported, reports Orda.kz.
Rescue teams inspecting the area found fragments of an aircraft. Preliminary, unconfirmed reports suggest the debris belongs to the helicopter that went missing earlier near the village of Otar.
Search and rescue operations are still underway, involving specialized equipment such as echo sounders, drones, and underwater ROVs.
A day earlier, Kazakhstan’s Air Force reported that a military helicopter had disappeared from radar in the region. Three crew members were on board.
