Scholarships Will Not Be Increased in Kazakhstan Yet

The authorities are discussing the possibility of resuming annual increases in student scholarships. No decision has been made yet, but the ministry is already negotiating with the government, Orda.kz reports.
Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek reminded that over the past five years, payments have already increased significantly.
Over the past five years, we have gradually increased scholarships by 20–25% annually. Overall, they have doubled. This cycle ended in 2025. he said.
According to him, the ministry is now discussing the launch of a new phase of increases with the government, but no specific decision has been made. The minister also noted that doctoral students saw the greatest growth. PhD students now receive about 254,000 tenge per month. The minimum scholarship for students, excluding pedagogical specialties, is about 55,000 tenge.
Separately, Sayasat Nurbek commented on the cost of tuition. According to him, the state is restraining price increases at public universities and does not allow sharp hikes.
We regulate the cost of education at public universities. We only allow a small inflation adjustment — no more than 10%. There will be no sharp jumps.Nurbek said.
He added that this year the ministry will continue discussing the issue with universities.
