Lawyer Gaukhar Sariyeva, representing the family of the girl whose child was kidnapped and whose brother was killed in Talgar, spoke out after a wave of criticism against the victim, Orda.kz reports.
On social media, the suspect's relatives began shifting blame, claiming the tragedy was the girl’s fault because she had been acquainted with a man.
No one is immune from encountering an aggressive or dangerous person. It can happen to anyone. No words, no actions, no circumstances give the right to kill, kidnap or abuse. Blaming the victim means justifying the criminal,
wrote Sariyeva.
She emphasized that the tragedy occurred because the criminal was not stopped in time.
On September 6, in the village of Qyzylkairat in Talgar district, a local service station employee shot Yernar, the young woman's brother, and then kidnapped her two-year-old daughter. The child was rescued and is now receiving treatment.
The suspect was detained by special forces and placed in pretrial detention.
Following the incident, the Almaty Region Prosecutor’s Office opened a case against the Talgar district police for inaction, after they released the man despite receiving a report of sexual assault.
