A new special economic zone, Qorqyt Ata, will be established near Qyzylorda Airport. The government has approved the project, which aims to develop the region into a hub for logistics, industry, and technology, Orda.kz reports.
According to the regional akimat, the SEZ will span 550 hectares and will be located adjacent to the new passenger terminal currently under construction at Qyzylorda International Airport.
Qorqyt Ata is expected to become a key driver of the local economy, with a focus on reducing reliance on oil production and supporting the growth of new sectors. The project includes plans for logistics and warehouse centers, as well as industrial facilities.
The special economic zone plans to implement investment projects in the construction industry, light and food industries, mechanical engineering, transport logistics, technology and innovation,
the Akimat stated.
The SEZ will accommodate enterprises working in 28 different economic sectors. Authorities hope the initiative will attract investors interested in expanding production, boosting exports, and creating new jobs.
Earlier, it was reported that UAE investors plan to invest over $1 billion in the development of Astana Airport.
