Investors want to build a new terminal, a second runway, a cargo hub, and an Aerotropolis – a cluster with hotels, logistics, and trade, Orda.kz reports.
Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates have signed an investment agreement to develop the capital’s airport comprehensively. The agreement was signed between the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Terminals Astana Airport Limited, a subsidiary of Terminals Holding (UAE).
The total investment is expected to exceed $1.1 billion.
The project includes the construction of a second runway, a third passenger terminal and a cargo terminal. In addition, an Aerotropolis will be created in the area of the air harbor — a multifunctional cluster with hotels, logistics facilities and shopping centers, as well as industrial and business zones,
the Ministry of Transport stated.
The investor will also upgrade the fleet of specialized airport equipment, introduce digital and automated systems, and provide training for airport personnel in line with international aviation standards.
