The Prosecutor General's Office has reopened the case of Qaraganda businessman Kuat Yermentayev, who claims that his company was seized by a nephew of Kazakhstan’s first president, Orda.kz reports.
The Almaty Department of Economic Investigations had previously looked into the illegal re-registration of a 16% stake in PORUS LLC, which belonged to Yermentayev.
The investigation, launched under Article 249 of the Criminal Code (“Corporate raiding”), was closed on February 22, 2024, due to what officials described as a “lack of evidence.”
The situation has since changed. After reviewing new materials and evidence provided by Yermentayev, prosecutors overturned the decision to dismiss the case on October 9, 2025.
Investigators from the Department of Economic Development have resumed their inquiry.
The Almaty Department of Economic Development is currently conducting additional investigative actions aimed at a comprehensive and objective verification of the facts presented,
Prosecutor General Berik Asylov stated in his official response.
Majilis deputy Yermurat Bapi brought attention to Yermentayev’s allegations and demanded an investigation into the actions of Nurbol Nazarbayev.
Our requests should be understood as an effort to restore justice for citizens who have suffered from nearly 30 years of oppression and lawlessness at the hands of a notorious family,
Bapi said at a Majilis plenary session on October 1, 2025.
According to the deputy, multiple entrepreneurs have filed complaints alleging they were victims of corporate raiding schemes linked to Nurbol Nazarbayev.
Among these statements was Yermentayev’s own report from Qaraganda.
If the law enforcement agencies concerned remain silent about requests written on behalf of citizens with tears in their eyes, this should be regarded as a betrayal of President Toqayev's initiative,
the parliamentarian warned.
This is not the first time the Nazarbayev family has been linked to corporate takeover allegations.
Earlier, Azim Abdullayev, director of the Almaty Glass Plant, addressed a letter to President Toqayev, accusing relatives of Bolat Nazarbayev of similar raiding practices.
