Majilis deputy Yermurat Bapi has called on the Prosecutor General to reopen an investigation into Nurbol Nazarbayev, nephew of Kazakhstan’s first president, Orda.kz reports.
Bapi reminded colleagues that Deputy Rinat Zaitov had already requested an inquiry into alleged violations by Nurbol Nazarbayev, the son of Bolat Nazarbayev and nephew of Nursultan Nazarbayev.
My parliamentary inquiry today is a continuation of this topic. It concerns the investigation of Nurbol Nazarbayev's criminal abuses and violence against innocent citizens. I emphasize that there is no concerted campaign against Nurbol Nazarbayev on the part of the Majilis or individual deputies. Our inquiries should be understood as an effort to restore justice for citizens who have suffered from nearly 30 years of oppression and lawlessness at the hands of this notorious family,
stated Yermurat Bapi.
According to him, he has repeatedly received complaints from citizens about alleged corporate raiding by Nurbol Nazarbayev, some of which were forwarded to the Prosecutor General's Office.
And now we've received another appeal from a citizen of Qaraganda, Kuat Yermentayev, who stated that he suffered from Nurbol Nazarbayev's corporate raiding actions and is asking for help in getting his business back,
added Bapi.
He noted that Yermentayev’s complaint led the Almaty Prosecutor's Office and the Department of Economic Investigations to open a 2022 case involving a stake in PORUS LLP.
However, in 2024, the case was closed due to “lack of evidence.” Bapi believes the closure was influenced by the Nazarbayev family and is demanding that the investigation be resumed.
If interested law enforcement agencies remain silent about requests written on behalf of citizens with tears in their eyes, this should be regarded as a betrayal of President Tokayev's initiative to build a 'Fair Kazakhstan,'
said Yermurat Bapi.
He also asked to be updated on the investigation's progress and outcome.
Earlier, Azim Abdullayev, director of the Almaty Glass plant, wrote to the president alleging corporate raids by Bolat Nazarbayev’s family, specifically his son Nurbol.
