Prosecution Appeals Acquittal in Atbasar Colony Torture Case

The Aqmola Region Prosecutor's Office has filed an appeal against the acquittal of 12 former Atbasar colony guards, Orda reports.
A jury had found the defendants not guilty on Wednesday despite widely circulated social media videos showing apparent prisoner abuse.
The guards faced charges under Article 146 of the Criminal Code for "cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, torture."
The specialized inter-district criminal court of the Aqmola region delivered the verdict.
