President Toqayev Extends Congratulations on 70th Anniversary of Baikonur Cosmodrome

Qasym-Jomart Toqayev congratulated workers and veterans of the space industry on the 70th anniversary of the Baikonur Cosmodrome, calling it “the cradle of global astronautics” and a symbol of strategic partnership between Astana and Moscow, Orda.kz reports.

It was from here in 1957 that the first artificial satellite of the Earth was launched, and in 1961 — Yuri Gagarin flew into space. This historic event united people around the world and inspired faith in science and the progress of civilization.

Kazakhstan takes pride in hosting the world’s largest spaceport and plans to turn Baikonur into an international center for science, education, and tourism. Toqayev also expressed special gratitude to the city’s residents for preserving the legacy of the early pioneers and contributing to the sector’s development.

“I am confident that Baikonur will continue to be a launch point for great discoveries and a source of next-generation innovation.”

In December, the presidents of Kazakhstan and Russia may visit Baikonur. The occasion will be the launch of the Soyuz-5 carrier rocket, part of the “Baiterek” project, which has received around 100 billion tenge in funding.
