During his visit to New York ahead of the UN General Assembly debate, Kazakh President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev held talks with US President Donald Trump, Orda.kz reports.
Political scientist Gaziz Abishev wrote on his Telegram channel that the meeting was substantive and touched on several key issues.
During the conversation, the main focus was on the prospects for bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United States. Donald Trump emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation in the economic and trade spheres, Abishev quoted Aqorda’s statement as saying.
According to him, the discussion may have included trade tariffs, the supply of rare earth metals, oil and gas projects, and broader investment opportunities in Kazakhstan.
"The American leader enjoys talking about the economy—about specific projects that benefit both his country and its partners," the political scientist noted.
Abishev also recalled that Toqayev met with senior executives from Goldman Sachs, PepsiCo, Amazon, Chevron, and other corporations, where the focus was on projects in digitalization, fintech, food production, energy, and satellite communications.
The two presidents also discussed international issues.
Abishev suggested that Toqayev may have outlined his vision for ending the war in Ukraine, stressing diplomacy as the only way forward:
Kazakhstan has taken a non-interventionist stance from the very beginning, but advocates for dialogue and the search for solutions at the negotiating table.
In addition, Toqayev likely presented Trump with his ideas for reforming the UN Security Council, which he plans to address during the General Assembly.
Abishev argued that such reforms could also serve US interests.
