New York: Toqayev Speaks With Trump, Zelenskyy, and UN Leaders

Talks with U.S. Officials
Kazakh President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev held talks with US President Donald Trump during his working visit to New York.
The two leaders discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation, focusing on economic and trade issues. Donald Trump emphasized the importance of expanding ties in these areas.
The presidents also exchanged views on the current international agenda.
Toqayev also met with Trump’s new Special Representative for South and Central Asia and US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor. He congratulated the diplomat on his appointment and stressed that Kazakhstan is ready to provide comprehensive support for his mission.
Toqayev noted that Kazakhstan considers the United States a key economic partner in the region. Both sides emphasized the importance of trade and economic cooperation and prospects for a strategic partnership.
Deal Signed
In New York, a signing ceremony was held for agreements worth about $4.2 billion with the American company Wabtec, attended by US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. The agreements include the production of 300 modern freight locomotives in Kazakhstan and their servicing.
The Wabtec Kazakhstan locomotive assembly plant has been successfully operating in Astana since 2009. During this period, the company has invested over $230 million. Since its launch, the plant has produced over 600 locomotives for KTZ and for export,Aqorda stated.
Howard Lutnick emphasized U.S. interest in further developing trade, economic, industrial, and transport-investment projects with Kazakhstan. Other results of Toqayev’s meetings with global corporations include PepsiCo’s plant construction in the Almaty region, Amazon’s launch of the Kuiper satellite network, Chevron’s investments in Tengiz, and Meta’s assistance in artificial intelligence development.
Donald Trump also said he had spoken by phone with Toqayev and commented on the Wabtec agreement on his social network, Truth Social.
Meeting With Zelenskyy
Toqayev later met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. The leaders discussed economic and humanitarian cooperation, as well as Kazakh companies’ interest in participating in Ukraine’s reconstruction.
Toqayev emphasized the need to continue diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.
'I met with Kazakh President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev. The main goal now is to achieve a just and lasting peace with reliable security guarantees,' he added that the discussion also covered international efforts to end the war. 'I thank Kazakhstan for its support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram.
Other Big Meetings
On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Toqayev held a series of additional meetings. In talks with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, he reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s support for the UN’s work in strengthening peace, stability, and sustainable development.
A Memorandum was signed on the functioning of the UN Regional Centre for Sustainable Development Goals for Central Asia and Afghanistan.
Toqayev also met with European Council President António Costa, where both sides agreed to deepen bilateral and interregional cooperation.
In a meeting with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Toqayev thanked the federation for supporting the FIFA Arena program to develop youth football and modern sports infrastructure.
Infantino confirmed FIFA’s readiness to continue cooperation and help improve the level of national football.
