Police Clarify Reports on Detention of Journalist Nurtaza Kadyrniyazov

Almaty police have explained the detention of journalist Nurtaza Kadyrniyazov, former editor-in-chief of Dat, saying he was taken in only for a “clarification conversation,” Orda.kz reports.
In a response provided to Orda.kz, the Almaty Police Department stated that Kadyrniyazov “published inaccurate information that could mislead people.”
What publication they were referring to was not specified.
He was invited to the Auezov District Police Department for an explanatory discussion. During the meeting, officers provided explanations about the consequences of publishing inaccurate information, the statement reads.
Kadyrniyazov has since been released and allowed to return home.
