Opponents of Nuclear Plant Sentenced in Almaty

The Almaly District Court of Almaty has completed the case of activists who opposed the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan, Orda.kz reports.

According to investigators, five men of pre-retirement and retirement age planned to stage violent unrest and armed resistance to the authorities on October 6, 2024, the day of the referendum on the nuclear plant.

The prosecutor requested five years in prison for the defendants.

Judge Yernar Kasymbekov instead sentenced all of them to four years of restricted freedom.
