Officials Accused Of Legalizing Thousands Of Migrants For Bribes In Astana

Kazakhstan has uncovered a large-scale scheme for the illegal legalization of migrants, and the case has now been sent to court, Orda.kz reports.
According to the Main Transport Prosecutor’s Office, more than 5,000 citizens from Central Asian countries received work permits, temporary residence registration and stay extensions in exchange for money.
The scheme allegedly involved officials, including employees of the migration service and the Astana branch of the State Corporation “Government for Citizens”.
The defendants are accused of taking and giving bribes, acting as intermediaries in bribery, organising illegal migration and fraud.the prosecutor’s office said.
