Recently, MP Rinat Zaitov appealed to the Prosecutor General’s Office following Orda.kz’s September publication concerning the assets of Nurbol Nazarbayev. According to the deputy, the property already seized may represent only a fraction of Nazarbayev’s wealth, and he urged prosecutors to look deeper.
The appeal followed Orda.kz’s September 22 investigation detailing how Nurbol Nazarbayev lost control over $106.75 million (57 billion tenge) in assets. The court had frozen his accounts, blocked access to his income, and stripped him of management rights.
Speaking in parliament shortly afterward, Zaitov suggested that he might still control undeclared assets:
There are rumors that the family seized markets and illegally acquired land in Almaty and the Almaty region. The Altyn Orda market is most often mentioned. However, it is unknown whether these properties are among the seized assets. Details are not being disclosed, which raises questions and concerns among the public,
the Majilis member said, calling for a full inventory of Nurbol Nazarbayev’s holdings.
Prosecutor General’s Response
In his official reply, Berik Asylov stated that the process of recovering illegally obtained property continues, including in relation to Nurbol Nazarbayev.
However, he stressed that investigation details remain confidential:
By law, the authorized asset recovery agency is obligated to ensure the confidentiality of the data received. The information you provided will be taken into account in efforts to combat the misappropriation and withdrawal of assets, as well as their recovery. We take this opportunity to express our gratitude for the information you provided regarding individuals and companies,
the Prosecutor General said.
