Majilis deputy Rinat Zaitov has called for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Nurbol Nazarbayev’s bankruptcy, Orda.kz reports.
Earlier, Orda.kz revealed that Bolat Nazarbayev’s eldest son lost $106 million in assets following a ruling by the Asset Recovery Committee. His bank accounts were frozen, he was barred from managing company income or personal property, and his full control over his businesses was revoked.
Speaking on the sidelines of parliament, Zaitov said the case should be thoroughly reviewed, claiming that Nurbol Nazarbayev still possesses undeclared property.
Initially, this was presented as returned assets, but that’s impossible. He has far more property than indicated. Besides the visible ones, there are also hidden assets — plots and properties mentioned by Bakytzhan Bazarbek and Yermurat Bapi,
said the deputy.
Zaitov emphasized that the issue concerns personal debts and business assets, not state funds.
I don’t think it’s government money that’s disappeared here. It’s personal funds and business assets that need to be put in order,
he said.
He added that a full investigation and analysis are needed to determine the real scope of the assets.
If the state is to build a society based on law and order, it must begin with those who once broke the law,
Zaitov concluded.
Following Orda.kz’s publication on Nurbol Nazarbayev’s holdings, the MP formally requested that the government investigate the origin and full extent of the former Elbasy’s nephew’s wealth.
