Noise, Construction and Cameras: What Astana Residents Are Saying About the LRT Tests

Residents of Astana have started complaining about noise from the LRT, which is already being tested in the city. An Orda.kz correspondent went to the site to check whether the line is really causing discomfort for local residents.
Threads users have already begun raising questions about the noise.
Trains run about every seven minutes. The sound of their movement is indeed noticeable, especially for those living near the line. At the same time, it is still difficult to describe it as loud.
Residential complexes and kindergartens are located along the route, so even moderate noise may be felt more strongly, especially in the morning and around lunchtime. But the main source of noise comes not from the trains themselves, but from the ongoing construction work along the line.
At the same time, local residents still have questions about safety because of the construction.
Eyewitnesses also noticed new structures resembling traffic lights. CTS told us that 187 LED traffic lights had indeed been installed at stations, crossings, and in the depot. Cameras are also visible along the line, and they will likely be used for monitoring.
While the LRT is still operating in test mode, it is too early to draw final conclusions. However, it is already clear that after the launch, attention will have to be paid not only to the operation of the line itself, but also to the conditions around it — noise levels, safety, and the comfort of residents in nearby neighborhoods.
Earlier, we wrote that First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar, together with Astana Akim Zhenis Kassymbek, visited the LRT depot and checked preparations for the launch of the Unified Control Center. The entire light rail system will be operated from there. LRT testing began in September 2025. At the time, it was expected that the trains would begin regular service in early 2026.
