Dina Tansari, the founder of the “NeMolchi” human rights foundation, has been released from detention, Orda.kz reports.
She was arrested last night in Montenegro and placed in a temporary detention facility.
According to RTCG, she was taken into custody by order of the investigating judge of the High Court in Podgorica.
An investigative court hearing regarding the measure of restraint was held on April 15.
Following the proceedings, the court ruled to release the activist but confiscated her passport. Montenegrin authorities have not decided on her asylum status, which she applied for in 2023. Until they do, extradition proceedings are on hold, Azattyq reports.
Tansari has lived outside of Kazakhstan since 2021.
In 2023, a criminal case was opened against her under the article "Fraud." Tansari also faces charges concerning violation of privacy and dissemination of false information.
Tansari says the motives for it are political.
