Kazakhstan plans to build four new airports and two runways by 2028 as part of 11 major aviation infrastructure projects, Orda.kz reports.
The plans were announced at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov on the development of the transport sector. In addition to the new airports and runways, the government also plans to modernize aviation infrastructure in five cities.
This year, Kazakhstan also plans to expand its international route network to 135 destinations in 30 countries, up from 115 routes in 2024. New foreign carriers from Uzbekistan, Armenia, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the United States and Turkey are entering the Kazakh market.
The government has also reduced the cost of aviation fuel for domestic airlines to about $800 per ton, making it cheaper than in a number of neighboring countries.
At the same time, Bektenov criticized delays in the purchase of small aircraft and instructed officials to improve financing mechanisms for airlines that need them.
