On September 2, a drone flight to the summit of Victory Peak captured footage of the tent of Russian mountaineer Natalia Nagovitsina, showing no signs of life, Orda.kz reports.
The video was published on Telegram by blogger Viktoria Bonya:
“There is no one left to save. Now we can say for certain that Natalia has passed away. Power, spirit, strength — these are the three words that come to mind when I think of her."
The 47-year-old athlete became stranded while descending from the peak in Kyrgyzstan on August 12 after breaking her leg. Her climbing partner provided first aid and went for help. Later, two foreign mountaineers attempted a rescue but were only able to leave her a sleeping bag. Natalia had almost no food or water.
Several rescue attempts were made: on August 17, a helicopter carrying a rescue team was forced to make a hard landing, injuring the crew. On August 19, a drone recorded Nagovitsina alive in her damaged tent, but bad weather prevented rescuers from reaching her.
