The infected fruit was found by the territorial inspection of the State Inspection Committee in the agro-industrial complex under the Ministry of Agriculture in Zhambyl region. The products were being transported in vehicles that arrived from Kyrgyzstan.

During the inspection, officials found Comstock mealybugs in a batch of fresh plums weighing 800 kilograms. Experts also found Asian fruit flies in two batches of cherries with a total weight of 1,450 kilograms.

These quarantine pests affect many types of fruit crops and can cause serious damage to horticultural farms if they spread, the ministry said.

Following phytosanitary control, all infected products were recognized as dangerous. They were not allowed to be imported or moved through Kazakhstan and were returned to the senders in Kyrgyzstan. Administrative measures were also taken against the violators, including fines, the Ministry of Agriculture said.
