Three industrial greenhouse complexes worth a total of 534.2 billion tenge are being built in the Turkestan region. After launch, they are expected to fully cover Kazakhstan’s need for fresh vegetables in winter, Orda.kz reports.

The region already leads Kazakhstan in greenhouse farming. Turkestan accounts for 72 % of all greenhouses in the country. Its covered farming area stands at 1006.7 hectares. The new complexes will add 102,000 tons of products per year and create 1225 jobs.

In 2025, local greenhouses harvested more than 113,000 tons of vegetables and covered 45 % of domestic demand in the winter-spring period. In the first four months of 2026, farmers have already produced 38,200 tons.

The region’s farms have also moved beyond ordinary cucumbers and tomatoes. Turkestan farmers have successfully learned to grow subtropical fruits and berries in greenhouses. In 2025, they grew 13,000 tons of strawberries, 3200 tons of lemons and 550 tons of bananas.
