The luxurious Astana residence of Karim Massimov, the former chair of Kazakhstan’s National Security Committee, convicted of treason, is back on the auction block — now with a significantly reduced price, Orda.kz reports.

The mansion, located in the Nura district of the capital, has already failed to sell twice. This time, the asking price has dropped by nearly 300 million tenge.

According to the e-auction portal, the new starting price is 1,600,838,100 tenge.

By comparison, in March the mansion was listed at 1,883,338,900 tenge, but the auction fell through due to a lack of bidders. This will be the third attempt to sell the property, with bidding set to begin on May 13.

The sprawling estate encompasses 2,800 square meters of living space and is situated on 1.2 hectares of land. It’s being sold complete with furniture, decor, and a private collection of antiques.

The interiors evoke a once-lavish lifestyle, featuring a private disco bar, billiard room, sauna, indoor pool, and rooms adorned with luxury furnishings and art. What was once a fortress of power has now become an unsellable asset, weighed down by political scandal.

Massimov was sentenced to 18 years in prison for treason, attempting to seize power, and abuse of office. His assets were confiscated to recover damages to the state.

Earlier, we reported in detail on what exactly was inside the mansion.
