Mangystau: Oil Companies Facing Criminal Charges over Concealing Incidents
Oil service companies in Kazakhstan's Mangystau region have reportedly concealed workplace incidents, Orda reports.
Criminal charges have been initiated.
A prosecutor's investigation revealed that instead of reporting incidents to law enforcement as required, company management chose to cover them up.
The investigation was conducted under Part 1 of Article 156 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan 'Violation of safety regulations, industrial sanitation or other labor protection regulations.' The materials have already been submitted to the court, The Mangystau Regional Prosecutor's office reported.
While the prosecutor's office has not named the companies, this development follows recent regional labor tensions.
In December, workers at Chinese-operated Buzachi Operating Ltd. demanded safer working conditions after a colleague's death at their facility.
